Ellen Frankenberg, Ph.D., is CEO of The Frankenberg Group and a family business psychologist with 20 years experience managing her own business. She consults regularly with family and closely held companies primarily in the manufacturing, distribution and construction industries.

Dr. Frankenberg's book, Your Family, Inc.: Practical Tips for Building a Healthy Family Business, is in its second printing. Frankenberg is a regular columnist for Family Business magazine and has been a frequent commentator on WVXU, the Cincinnati-based affiliate of NPR. She also speaks for business, professional and trade associations, both in the United States and Europe.

In addition to her Masters degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati and a doctorate from The Ohio State University, Frankenberg holds advanced credentials in her field, notably the diploma for "advanced competence in the specialty of family psychology" granted by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). She teaches in the MBA program at Xavier.

In 2001 she was named by the Family Firm Institute as a Family Business Advisor With Fellow Status, the most prestigious qualification in her field.


 

Flip Sheridan is a proven CEO with over 25 years' experience working with a wide range of businesses-from start-ups and family firms to global public companies. Most recently, Sheridan founded and served as CEO of HAZCO Services, which he built into the market leader for the rental, sale and repair of environmental instrumentation and safety equipment. In 1998, he sold his company and began serving clients as an interim CEO, COO or senior sales and marketing executive, as well as advising CEOs and Boards of Directors.

Sheridan's leadership experience includes serving as co-founder of RAE Systems, Inc., the worldwide leading manufacturer of photo-ionization detectors; founder of the Safety Marketing Group; and interim President of Sheridan Safety Supply, a family business he positioned for sale.

As a consultant, Sheridan specializes in business-to-business clients. He has extensive experience with strategic planning, product line and market segmentation analysis, sales and marketing strategy, organization and management development, management succession, positioning a company for sale, cost reduction and turnarounds, and quality improvement programs.

Sheridan holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Indiana University and has completed the Owners/Presidents Program at Harvard University Graduate School of Business.

Dr. Ellen Frankenberg joined John Wenstrup of Huntington Bank for a presentation for their premier clients on February 28 titled, "Transferring Your Business to the Next Generation".

Flip Sheridan and Ellen Frankenberg will offer a presentation for theFamily Business Center at Northern Kentucky University on Tuesday, March 25 titled "Know When to Hold 'em, Know When to Fold 'em". Their focus will be on working carefully through what needs to happen within the family and within the business to handle a buy out offer in the best waypossible - to protect "The Golden Goose".

Dr. Frankenberg gave a presentation for business leaders sponsored by Metropolitan Education and Training Services (METS) in Covingtion, KY on Conflict Resolution on April 24, 2002.

Dr. Frankenberg recently addressed the staff of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation on Finding the Right "Joy to Stuff Ratio" for your Family: The Role of Philanthropy in Family Business Planning.

"Dr. Frankenberg recently organized a CEO's roundtable for Women Executives in Family Businesses. This group will meet six times per year to learn the best practices of family businesses and to offer support to each other in their challenging efforts to balance family and business expectations. Dr. Frankenberg addressed Xavier University MBA students and faculty on April 15 on Family Business: Pitfalls and Promises as an introduction to the course on Family Business Issues she will be teaching in the XU MBA program in the Fall, 2002.
